outfit anatomy: dressing for the cold

As a seasoned Northeasterner, I've experienced my fair share of frigid temps and ever-dreaded snow. I've resorted to puffy coats and weatherproof boots far too many times to mention, and usually let style fall by the wayside when winter works its powdery magic.

But when looking like a bundled up marshmallow simply won't do, here is my recipe for cold weather outfit perfection that is every bit as warm and toasty as its bulkier counterpart:

red and green

I'm normally not one to mix red and green. The combo often feels a bit "holiday-y." But these sneakers have me searching for new ways to mix and match red, so I gave this olive green jacket a go! The slightly brick red against the more subdued green (tempered by deep browns and black) made for a harmonious little blend.

out of hibernation

Yesterday was my last first day of law school! As much as I wish I were still sleeping in and chilling out every day, it feels good to be back (I was getting a little too comfy in my PJs..). For the new year and new semester, I decided to go a bit shorter and lighter with my hair! It will be making its freshly chopped debut on the blog soon. Stay tuned :)

after the storm

Though we're still without power, we are thankfully all in one piece after the storm. Living in an internet-less/cell phone-less/Twitter-less/TV-less world really makes you take stock of what's truly important. Our thoughts go out to everyone who's still feeling the effects of Sandy.

Greetings from the not-so-sunny east coast! To celebrate Sally being done with high school, we headed out to the beach for a week-long getaway. Aside from today's gloomy weather, it's been nothing but sunshine and fun!
